Please visit www.gsl-ab.ca… to learn more about our Spiritual Director. Course Description- Getting to Know Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion Compassion allows us to experience a deep sense of heartfelt connectedness with other people; it breaks down the barriers that divide us. The global impact of the COVID 19 pandemic is an urgent reminder that we are all in this together and that it is essential to foster the spirit of caring for all, by all. The concern for another's suffering and a desire for others to have everlasting joy and happiness elevates one's existence beyond just self-concern. In Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, it is said there are two wings to enlightenment: the wing of altruistic compassion, and the wing of wisdom. Historically, Tibetans have used the practice of Chenrezig to help develop a strong connection to the deity and practice. This course is designed to help students develop a strong connection to the Buddha of Compassion through learning about his origin, history, and his enlightened qualities. Through this connection, students will deepen their practice of developing compassion, the potential that resides within us, so that true transformation of one's own mind-stream can begin. Course Prerequisite There are no course prerequisites. This course, however, is designed to complement both the Buddha of Compassion (Chenrezig) —A Mind Focusing Meditation and The Buddha of Compassion (Chenrezig) One-Day Retreat. Students interested in deepening their knowledge and practice of Chenrezig may be interested in registering for all three, however, depending on individual interests and time, each is a complete course/retreat on its own. Target Audience This course is suitable for those interested in developing or strengthening their connection to Chenrezig, the Buddha of compassion. Location Currently the course will only be offered virtually until such time as we are able to safely open the Centre for regular classes. It is our intention to continue offering zoom classes as an option after the Centre reopens.
