Catherine Burgess - Presence/Abscence

Art Gallery of Alberta (2 Sir Winston Churchill Square) Ongoing through Sunday, October 14, 2012 Burgess is well known for her quiet, contemplative works that are based on arrangement of found objects, geometric forms and simplified shapes. They are interplays of materiality: stone, metal and found objects, as well as studies of solids and voids. In Burgess' work disparate parts - such as a hollow steel cube or a split sphere of granite - are unified into a compelling and enigmatic whole. Supported by Artist Patrons Maggie and John Mitchell The RBC New Works Gallery features new artworks by Alberta artists. Initiated in 1998 and named the RBC New Works Gallery in 2008, this gallery space continues the Art Gallery of Alberta's tradition of supporting Alberta artists.
