Woodcroft Branch Sunday, April 15, 2012, 2 – 5pm Memoir Project: The story of me and maybe you . . . Do you hope to write your family or neighborhood history? Or would you like to tell a story about your own life? Perhaps you started a personal memoir project but became overwhelmed. This program is designed to guide people through all stages of their memoir project: planning, researching, writing and printing. (Program limited to 12 participants) During the course of these sessions, each participant may schedule a meeting with the Writer in Residence for individual feedback. Week One: In what ways can a memoir be structured? We will cover chronological, thematic and combination approaches so you can choose what is best for your story. We will also discuss library resources for memoir writing. Week Two: What facts does your story depend on? What details does it need to be interesting? How do you collect this information? This week we will cover basic research methods, interviewing techniques and those situations where second-guessing is necessary. Week Three: How can you make your story as interesting to readers as it is to you? Learn essential writing techniques to make your words fresh and lively. Week Four: How will you produce and distribute your story? Learn the difference between printing and publishing and what resources are available for both.
