In Edmonton, members of the Tanzanian Community Association of Northern Alberta (TANA) and people of Tanzanian origin, of both of African and Asian descent, together with those affiliated with Tanzania, as well as friends and supporters of Tanzania; we all plan to celebrate this historic event, which we have branded Tanzania At Fifty or TZ @ 50, on Saturday, December 3, 2011. Much as the event honours this 50th independence anniversary as a milestone for Tanzania, it also celebrates something that our original homeland shares with our adopted Canadian homeland. We will be honouring, through this event, the principle and practice of diversity, multiculturalism and cultural exchange, a source of the relative peace and stability that reign in both Tanzania and Canada. Our celebration will embrace not only members of TANA and of the Edmonton's Tanzanian community, affiliates, friends and supporters, but also – in the spirit of cultural exchange and diversity, individuals – groups and representatives from the wider Edmonton community, including Edmonton's other African communities. We will use the occasion to honour the cultural diversity of which we are proud and grateful to be part.
